Hello dear HarmonicaUK member and welcome to our February newsletter.

There’s so much I want to share with you that I hardly know where to start!

So may I firstly guide you to the Newsdesk webpage, our Events page, and not forgetting our members only section. Our events section holds information on our upcoming open mic, 5 pm GMT Saturday 4th of February. Always a good one to attend where you can practice playing in front of others, or just sit back and enjoy the music and fun. Our coffee morning is held every Friday at 11 am GMT, where like minded people meet for a chance for a good old natter!

We of course have our upcoming Chromatic Weekend in April, full details given within this newsletter. There is also an opportunity to visit the Seydel festival held in Klingenthal, Germany where you can see Brendan Power performing.

I briefly mentioned in last month's newsletter that HarmonicaUK are striving to increase facilities for our members. You may notice our events page is listing a workshop with Aidan Sheehan who will be our first guest in the recommencement of the Saturday Session Workshops, hosted by Dave Colclough and myself. We intend these sessions to be both fun and educational for all, with a Q & A opportunity at the end. Write in to Newsdesk with any ideas of artists who you would love to see hold one of these sessions.

Find details of this and other Saturday Sessions featuring workshops for both diatonic and chromatic players for members only here: https://www.harmonica.uk/events/harmonicauk-saturday-session-member-workshops

Barry Elms, our Chair, has been working hard on the members page and the sessions will be recorded and available under that section of our website for our members to watch over and over. Also, we are always looking for Harmonica-related news from all over the world, tips, research, jokes, events, and of course gigs. Please help us to help you by sending in your information to share with other members to [email protected].

Finally, we only have a few days left until the Harpin' By The Sea festival, held by Richard Taylor and his team in Brighton. HarmonicaUK will have a stand at this event and quite a lot of us are attending. So drop by and say hello, we will very much look forward to seeing you there.

Apologies for the amount of information I have tried to cram into this newsletter. There is still much more I could and should mention so please keep checking out our website regularly.

I look forward to hearing from you via Newsdesk email or catch you at one of the events.

Until the next time.

Suzy

Suzy Colclough, Communications Manager/Committee Member.

P.S. HarmonicaUK is run entirely by volunteers. I hasten to add all of us enjoy the work we do but we are extremely stretched and need help. Please let us know if you are able to give any time whatsoever in joining our happy and friendly team. Anything from an hour a week, an hour a month, or periodically, helping us manage with the magazine, website, at festivals etc. We would all be extremely grateful and thank you for your consideration.

HarmonicaUK is pleased to announce that tickets are now on sale for our Chromatic Weekend, taking place on 28th-30th April at Hillscourt Hotel, Birmingham.

Our ever-popular CW event has a fantastic lineup of professional artists, including workshops with Isabella Krapf and Phil Hopkins covering different musical genres and techniques,  further sessions with in-house members Paddy Byrne and Hilvert Scheper, and the chance to hone your maintenance skills with harp technician John Cook.

Our Saturday night artists‘ concert offers you a rare opportunity to experience all performers on stage and is always entertaining. It doesn’t stop there, as Sunday afternoon’s concert is your time to share playing to other delegates in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Chris Collis will be on hand to provide excellent backing wherever needed during the weekend.

In addition, Hilvert has created a number of core score songs with full notation, chromatic tabs and full facilities for visually impaired members. These include music for chordal Instruments as well.
